Stress in children and teens…Who knew? Believe it or not this younger group of people can experience a great amount of stress. The problem lies in the long term effects of stress if not treated properly. The source of stress can come from not only the family dynamics such as abuse or divorce but social issues such as bullying or world events. One must first identify the symptoms of stress i.e. anger, changing in eating, etc.. Then you want to address these issues with good communication, exercise, healthy eating and proper rest. Positive communication, is, by far, the best source of therapy for both children and teens.
Key Takeaways:
- Short term stress might encourage children to get things done that they need to but long term stress is different.
- If there is a lot of tension at home, this can lead to a great deal of stress in their life.
- A change in behavior, or irritability and anger are both signs that your child is stressed.
“Young children might be stressed about making friends, dealing with bullies or getting along with their teachers.”
